Investing in HOA's (Homeowner's Association)

In this 52nd episode of We Are TPM, John & Kyle discuss investing in homeowners

associations (HOAs). They explain that HOAs are groups of people who come together

and manage common areas of a property, usually in a planned development. They

discuss the different types of investments that can be made with HOAs, such as longterm, short-term, and vacation rentals. The hosts also discuss the potential negatives

associated with HOAs, such as the negative connotations people have from hearing

stories in the news and from personal experiences. Ultimately, they encourage people

to consider the benefits of investing in HOAs, such as the potential for increased value

and a sense of community.

The conversation discusses the potential for homeowners to have a bad experience

with Homeowner's Associations (HOAs). This is often due to the level of power HOAs

have over the property in a complex, as well as the fees and assessments which are

required.

This conversation includes the personal experiences of two HOA presidents — John: a

current president (with 600 homes), and Producer Steve: an immediate past president

(with 280 homes) . Both have had a good experience overall, with financial success

and the ability to maintain and increase values. The main point made is that the HOA

can only govern what is written in the CC&Rs (Covenants, Conditions, & Restrictions).
